Angela Filomena studied biochemistry at the University of Tübingen, Germany. During her doctoral thesis (Dr. rer. nat.) she worked on multiplex serological assays for the analysis of the humoral immune response to the hepatitis C virus genotype 4. Since 2018, she has been working at the Testing Laboratory for in vitro diagnostic medical devices at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, Germany. In 2020, she took over as deputy head of the testing laboratory. In 2024, the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut was designated as EU reference laboratory for in vitro diagnostic medical devices (EURL-IVD), where Angela Filomena is the head of the serology section.
